American Manufacturing

Makita's highly advanced manufacturing facility, Makita Corporation of America,
located in Buford, Georgia, is where hundreds of skilled Americans manufacture
tools for the U.S. and countries abroad. This world-class facility builds over 70
different models totaling over 28 million tools, all manufactured for the
professional user.

The 430,000 square foot facility has grown extensively since its ground breaking
over 15 years ago. Now, about 800 employees combine traditional American
know-how with 85 years of Makita research and development to produce millions
of professional grade tools each year.

Makita's Buford facility produces its industrial tools from carefully selected
raw materials and with the most advanced manufacturing equipment in the
world. To make certain that Makita's Quality standards are upheld, constant
testing is performed during machining and assembly processes, including a
final run-test under power before leaving the factory, to ensure optimum performance.

Raw Materials:
The first building block in manufacturing the most powerful and efficient motors
is the choice of raw materials. Makita selects only the highest quality raw
materials for its motor components, knowing that these are the key elements
in determining the quality, durability, and efficiency of a motor.
- Premium-Grade Steel - used to produce armature shafts and gears, and graded to the highest industry standards
- High-Grade Magnetic Copper Wire - 97% Pure Copper for superior current flow and to withstand extreme temperatures
- Premium-Grade Magnetic Steel – ensures efficient current flow and higher output of power
Motor Design and Engineering:
Raw materials aren’t the only factor contributing to producing a superior power tool.
Makita believes that the motor is the heart of any power tool and we take extra steps
in the manufacturing process to ensure it is the best motor made. We design and
engineer each motor specifically matching performance and ergonomics for each
individual tool.


The armature is the first building block in assembling the motor. All Makita armatures
are dynamically balanced to twice the industry standard, giving Makita the finest
balanced motor armature available to ensure long life with less vibration.


The field core is made from the highest quality magnetic steel available and is
stamped and laminated into a tight and uniform core. The tight tolerances in the
field core deliver the most efficient energy transfer and the most output power.
As significant as raw material and motor design are, manufacturing equipment
and processes play an equally important role in producing the best tools on the
market. Makita uses the most stringent manufacturing processes and quality
control in the industry assuring every tool meets professional standards.

Innovative Cordless Technology:
Makita designs and manufactures innovative cordless tools using advanced
technology, which allows professionals the ability to use cordless tools on tasks
previously thought to be impossible. Our goal in designing any cordless tool is to
allow all the convenience cordless offers without sacrificing the power or efficiency
of a corded tool.

Makita Motors - Superior Cordless Technology:
Makita sets the standard in cordless motor technology with features such as:
externally accessible brushes, dual ball bearings, a thicker armature shaft and a
strategically located heat sink, all of which maximize performance and ensure a

Years Ahead of the Competition:
Makita's advances in motor technology have led to the development of our new
two-piece "D" series motors that offer the serviceability and power only found,
until now, in corded tools. Our new "D" motors offer superior performance in a
compact size, allowing the design of cordless tools that are lighter, yet more
powerful. Our latest cordless motor, the High Performance D-28R, utilizes a rare
earth magnet in the motor field that improves its efficiency, generating up to 3
times more power than comparably sized motors.
